A man is recovering after being struck by a motorbike in Old Tupton on Friday evening.

Police were called to Station New Road shortly before 7:45 p.m. after a Yamaha XT 125 motorcycle collided with a pedestrian.

The man, who is in his 30s, was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but police say his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and any dash cam or private CCTV footage from the area. A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police urged anyone with information to come forward, quoting reference 24*533718.

The presence of armed officers was widely shared on social media on Friday and reported as a stabbing. Several posts were put up in Facebook groups for Clay Cross and Danesmoor, with several people speculating on the exact reasons why armed police officers had been spotted in the area.

In the Cray Cross and Danesmoor community group, one user wrote, “What’s going off round cross tonight seen about 10 cop cars flying past in last 20 mins”. Several replies in the comments claimed a person had been stabbed, while others said the road had been closed and armed officers seen.

But while armed officers were seen, the road was briefly closed, Derby Now understands that the actual reasons are very different. Armed officers were already in the area, and on hand to help should the need arise but the exact reason for the flurry of police activity was actually a road traffic accident.
