Two men were stabbed and a third suffered a head injury during a huge street fight in Normanton, Derby — the third knife attack to hit the city in just 10 days.

The violent clash broke out between two groups of men on Middleton Street, near Walbrook Nursery, just before 1.15pm on Friday, May 16.

Police quickly descended on the area, sealing off the street with crime scene tape and launching a full investigation.

At the scene, a damaged blue vehicle was visible as officers carried out enquiries. Multiple police units attended, and uniformed officers wearing body-worn cameras were seen collecting evidence.

Forensic teams were also present, and the area remained cordoned off for several hours. Three men were found injured at the scene. One suffered a head injury, while two others sustained stab wounds and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Their conditions have not been made public.

The violence near the nursery has shocked residents in Normanton, especially amid a string of knife-related incidents gripping the city.

Just last week, a man was stabbed to death inside Lloyds Bank in Derby city centre. Days later, another man was stabbed in Alvaston. Friday’s brawl is the third serious knife crime reported in the city in the last 10 days, fuelling concerns about rising violence on Derby’s streets.

Derbyshire police have urged anyone with information or mobile footage from the Middleton Street incident to come forward. They are asking people to reference case number 25000281837 when contacting the force.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “We were called to reports of a fight between two groups of men in Middleton Street, Normanton, just before 1.15pm.

“At the scene three people had been injured – and four men, two aged in their 30s, two in their 50s and three in their 20s, have been arrested and remain in police custody.

“The two groups are known to one another and is being treated as an isolated incident.
