A camper van burst into flames in a car park outside McDonald’s in Clay Cross on Monday, causing significant damage to a nearby vehicle.

Firefighters from Clay Cross and Staveley were called to the scene just after noon and quickly got the blaze under control. Crews arrived to find the fire had spread from the camper van to an adjacent car.

Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames. The area was cordoned off for public safety as the incident unfolded.

Derbyshire Fire statement after camper van burst into flames

A spokesperson from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the incident, saying: “Firefighters from Clay Cross and Staveley were called to a vehicle fire in a car park off Derby Road, Clay Cross, at 12.03 hours on Monday 9 September.

“Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire involving a camper van which had spread to an adjacent car. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“The affected area was cordoned off for public safety and the incident was handed to the vehicle owners to arrange recovery of the vehicles. No injuries were reported, but the fire caused significant disruption in the busy Derby Road area.”
