A disabled woman who died in a fire in Derby had been disabled and dependent on an electric wheelchair to go around.

The victim, who has been locally identified as Ruth, died together with her dogs Tilly and Harley on Friday, September 6.

Neighbours say, Ruth, who was disabled and required a mobility scooter, was known in the area because of her dogs.

But, the neighbours say they did not know she had died in a fire and they assumed she had just been found collapsed dead. Mrs Hoskins, a neighbour, said she knew Ruth and described the tragedy as “really sad”.

She said: “I didn’t know her that well, but it is sad. I didn’t know there was a fire, I just thought they found her collapsed in the house.

Flowers and cards have been left outside the bungalow where Ruth and her dogs died. An eery silence greets you at the place, which shows very little signs of damage from the outside.

One card, from Ruth’s parents, reads: “We will always love you, always.

“Forever in our hearts. RIP Ruth, Tilly + Harley. From the ones that love you the most. Mum + Dad.”

Another card, from Ruth’s Uncle and Aunt reads: “To my niece. For in our hearts. Love from Uncle + Aunty. P+D and family”.
