An urgent warning has been issued to commuters including those from Derby.

The warning dissuades travel to and from a popular English city. It has been issued by train operator Avanti West Coast.

They say a person had trespassed on to the rail lines. Several people are stuck on trains for 3 to 5 hours and counting.

A spokesperson for the train company said: “Do not travel to/from Manchester

“We are advising customers not to travel on services to or from Manchester Piccadilly due to a trespasser on the railway.

“Customers with tickets dated today (02/11) will be permitted to travel tomorrow (03/11)”

The train operator says the person may have been arrested already.

A spokesperson said: “There aren’t any updates at the moment, but we’re expecting more info soon, as we think the person has been apprehended .”

Which trains have been affected by the trespasser on the railway?

Although issued by Avanti, the disruption has affected all train companies. These include:

  • CrossCountry,
  • East Midlands Railway,
  • Northern,
  • TransPennine Express,
  • Transport for Wales

What train companies have said about trains cancelled, like Derby to Manchester

East Midlands Rail, who run most trains out of Derby to Manchester said: “We are sorry but our services are disrupted between Sheffield / Manchester and Liverpool Lime Street this evening, a trespass incident is causing significant delays and cancellations.

“Please check your journey this evening, some of our trains have been cancelled, as a result of the disruption near Manchester.”

Many people in Derby travel to Manchester via train. This is either to utilise Manchester Airport or watch things like football.

Derby Now understands all lines in the affected area have reopened and the person was apprehended.

But services will remain disrupted for the rest of the evening and travellers are advised to travel tomorrow instead.
