“We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Derby and Matlock/Chesterfield, disrupting our trains on the Sheffield/London and Matlock/Nottingham routes,” a spokesperson for the train operator said.

Train services between Derby, Chesterfield, and Sheffield were suspended while emergency services dealt with the incident. Passengers were advised to travel via Nottingham if their direct trains were cancelled.

At 8 pm, nearly two hours after the incident was first reported, East Midlands Railway said they were working to reopen the track. However, they cautioned that resuming the full timetable was unlikely due to the late hour.
