A man was rescued from a burning flat by firefighters after a blaze broke out on Bank Street in Long Eaton on the evening of Thursday, September 12.

Fire crews from multiple stations responded to the emergency at 5:28pm, including teams from Long Eaton, Ascot Drive with the Aerial Ladder Platform, and Nottinghamshire’s Highfields and Stapleford stations.

Upon arrival, firefighters immediately entered the flat, where they discovered a man trapped inside. The fire crews successfully rescued him and handed him over to paramedics who treated him at the scene.

The man’s condition remains undisclosed. A second occupant, a woman, had already managed to escape the flat before the fire crews arrived.

A joint investigation by police and fire officials is set to begin today, Friday, September 13, to assess how the blaze started and whether foul play is involved. Further updates on the investigation are expected as authorities continue to examine the scene.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters from Long Eaton, Ascot Drive with the Aerial Ladder Platform, and Nottinghamshire’s Highfields and Stapleford stations were called to a flat fire on Bank Street in #LongEaton at 17.28 hours on Thursday 12 September.

“On entering the property, firefighters rescued one male and handed him into the care of paramedics at the scene. One further occupant, a female, had self evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews. A joint police and fire investigation into the cause of the fire is due to commence today (Friday 13 September).”
