Residents of a Derbyshire town are seething after a lump of human excretement was discovered in the morning.

Airedale Close in Derby woke to an unusual and unpleasant sight: an abandoned pile of excrement left on the pavement, drawing a range of reactions from anger to humor.

A local resident shared a photo of the scene on social media with the caption, “Looks like someone got caught short on Airedale Close last night, hopefully no one stepped in it on the school run this morning!”

The post quickly gained traction as community members weighed in, some poking fun while others voiced their frustration.

One resident commented, “Honestly, it’s just disrespectful. Our neighborhood isn’t a public toilet.”

Another added, “This is so embarrassing. You’d expect this from animals, not people.”

However, not everyone was quite so outraged. A few took the incident in stride, with one local joking, “Guess the council needs a ‘excretementpatrol’ now!” while another added, “Whoever did this should at least come back with a mop and bucket – free cleanup with every apology!”

Concerns were also raised about the health and safety implications, especially with the location so close to a school route.

A parent commented, “I can’t imagine stepping in that on the way to school – what a nightmare for parents with kids.”

Another worried, “This isn’t just gross, it’s dangerous. Kids don’t always watch where they’re stepping.”

A few residents mentioned their hopes that the council would promptly address the situation, noting that public defecation brings significant health hazards if left uncleaned.

Excretement in public can be dangerous

Public defecation not only affects hygiene but can also expose the public to harmful bacteria and parasites, increasing risk of infections if people or pets come into contact with the waste.

It also creates a physical hazard; a misstep could lead to a slip, and any mess tracked indoors could spread germs further.

In addition to being an unpleasant sight, incidents like this are a reminder of the importance of maintaining public cleanliness, particularly in areas with high foot traffic like school routes.

What the residents said

As the discussion continues, residents are hoping for increased awareness and a swift cleanup to avoid any repeats of the messy situation in the future. “We’re all for laughing it off, but some things are just out of bounds,” one resident concluded.
