A manhunt has been launched after members of the public intervened to stop an assault by a man in Derby.

Police say a man riding an orange delivery driver e-bike offered the victim a lift before committing the offence.  Three people passing by the area intervened by shouting at the man, who then abandoned his attack and fled the scene.

Derbyshire Police are now looking for these people and have asked them to come forward as potential witnesses. Meanwhile, police have also launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is described as being of Asian appearance and was seen wearing a dark grey tracksuit and black trainers.

Authorities have released an image of the man they wish to identify in connection with the assault. The incident happened between 7:15pm and 8:30pm on October 23 on the canal path close to David Lloyd’s gym.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers investigating a **** assault in Derby are appealing for witnesses and information.

“The incident occurred on the canal path near to the David Lloyd gym between 7.15pm and 8.30pm on 23 October. The victim was offered a lift by a man on an e-bike and was then assaulted.
“Three people walking in the area at the time shouted at the man and he then left the scene.The man is described as Asian appearance and was riding an orange electric delivery bike. He was wearing a dark grey tracksuit and black trainers.
“We would like to identify the man in the image in connection with the incident. We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and in particular the three people who shouted at the man. If you recognise the man in the image please contact us.”
