A Derby accident today forced a major road to be closed in both directions.
Acresford Road has been shut down in both directions following a serious accident involving a lorry and a car.
According to Traffic Reporting Apps, the incident occurred between Gorsey Lane and Moira Road, with police reporting the accident as severe.

Police say the closure however is between The Cricketts Inn and Lamberstitch Drive.
An investigation is underway, and authorities expect the closure to last for a considerable period as they investigate the Dercy accident.

The accident was initially reported at approximately 9:47am, causing significant traffic delays.
Traffic apps are showing extremely slow movement in the area, and motorists are being urged to find alternative routes to avoid further congestion.
Updates on the road’s reopening are anticipated as investigation works progress.
Announcing the Derby accident, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “The A444 Acresford Road is closed between The Cricketts Inn and Lamberstitch Drive following a serious collision between a lorry and a car.
The road will remain closed for some time – please avoid the area and use alternative routes.”

The road is still closed. Traffic reporting apps show that traffic around the area is building up as well.
Most roads in the area fluctuate between red and orange indicators, which all show very slow-moving traffic.
Update: 11:47 – A very dangerous road – residents react
Residents have described the area where the accident occurred as “dangerous”. Writing on Facebook, one resident said,: “It needs remodelling. Its 40mph on both sides and turning on to a bend.
East Midlands Ambulance Service, Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue have been approached for comment.
Update 15:45 – Woman in her 20s fighting for her life in hospital
A woman in her 20s is in critical condition after the accident. The woman, who was driving a SEAT was pulled out of the wreckage by firefighters.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said:
“We were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and a car on the A444 between The Dumbles and Overseal at 9am today (31 October).
“Officers attended the scene and found a Scania lorry and a Seat Ibiza.
“The driver of the Seat, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and she remains at hospital receiving treatment.
“Both the lorry and the car required recovery – and the road remains closed.”

“Firefighters from Swadlincote attended a road traffic collision involving a car and a HGV on Acresford Road in Overseal at 9.03 hours on Thursday 31 October.One casualty was extricated from the car by fire crews before being conveyed to hospital by ambulance.
