
Seven men have been sentenced following a massive brawl involving lethal weapons at a Kabaddi tournament in Derby last summer.
The incident, which unfolded on August 20, saw two groups clash violently at a pre-planned meeting in Alvaston. Participants wielded a mix of large-bladed weapons and firearms, leaving several individuals injured.
Police were alerted to the scene on Elvaston Lane just before 4pm amid reports of shots being fired and people engaging in a chaotic fight. Police investigations revealed that the fight had been organized in advance, with one group assembling at Brunswick Street in Derby.

Surveillance footage captured Parminder Singh, one of the men involved, wearing a hood and face covering as he approached a hedge between two fields. Officers later recovered a shoulder bag in that area containing a loaded weapon.
Singh’s DNA was found on both the weapon and the bag. Singh, who was struck by a b****t in the groin during the fray, required surgery to remove it. He was convicted of violent disorder and possession of a firearm.

The police tracked down the participants through a combination of video footage, forensic evidence, and witness testimonies. Video footage showed several men openly brandishing weapons and firing shots.
Some members sustained severe injuries during the clash. Hardev Uppal, who was captured firing a firearm that struck Karamjit Singh in the groin, was later assaulted and suffered a fractured skull.
Police utilized video evidence and tracked DNA to identify each participant and document the extent of their involvement.
At Derby Crown Court on November 6, the men were sentenced as follows:
Malkeet Singh: 3 years
Parminder Singh: 6 years and 6 months
Karamjit Singh: 4 years and 6 months
Jagjit Singh: 4 years and 6 months
Baljit Singh: 3 years and 9 months
Doodhnath Tripathi: 5 years and 10 months
Hardev Uppal: 10 years and 10 months
In total, the seven men received a combined sentence of 39 years and 1 month.
