
A Derby man attempted to set petrol pumps on fire at a Derby petrol station.
Terry Mangan also beat up two people at Markeaton Island. The incident happened just after 5 pm on Wednesday, January 8.
During the same spree, Terry Mangan also damaged property and threatened other people with violence.

Officers, assisted by an off-duty Special Constable, arrested him at the scene. The arrest was effected before any petrol pumps could be ignited, preventing sure disaster.
What happened to the man who tried to set petrol pumps on fire in Derby
Terry Mangan, 32, of Holly Court, Derby, has now been charged with several crimes. These are:
- Arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered
- Attempted arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered
- Two counts of assault
- Two counts of criminal damage
- Burglary
- Threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence

The quick response by police ensured public safety, preventing what could have been a major incident.
Mangan appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 10. He was remanded in custody and will appear in court at a later date.
