A 33-year-old man has been charged after a police chase saw a pedestrian struck by a BMW on November 6, 2024.

The collision took place at 11:30 am when officers attempted to stop the green BMW. The car subsequently collided with the pedestrian, a man in his 60s.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Sohail Afzal, of Burton Road, Derby was arrested.

Sohail Afzal was later charged with several offences, including causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Other charges include;

  1. Failing to stop for police,
  2. Driving while disqualified,
  3. Criminal damage,
  4. Driving without insurance.

Sohail Afzal appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on November 7. He was remanded in police custody.

He is set to appear in court again at a later date. Investigations continue.
